Group Squadron Support

Group III is committed to supporting its member squadrons through advice, guidance, training, inspections, and hands-on help.

Each group staff officer is the squadrons' first stop when seeking assistance on that particular area. Staff officers are experienced CAP members who have done well in their specialty. They generally possess advanced training, are highly motivated, and are dedicated to mentoring squadron personnel. They will help the squadrons organize their sections efficiently, focusing on excellence.

Throughout this website, there is a link to the Safety Officer's page. Group III urges all members to keep an eye on safety at all times, and to take every possible precaution to avoid personal injury and/or equipment damage.

In supporting some squadron positions, the group staff may approached them as "by the book" jobs. However, some positions especially those that have to do with people usually require more flexibility.

A case in point is the Group III Chaplain, who looks after the spiritual well-being of CAP members and, also, is an integral part of the Incident Stress Management staff. When we are activated because of a disaster, and there are confirmed or possible casualties, the chaplain is the first one there. He ministers to the victims, CAP members, and the victims' family.

Another special case is the Group III Public Affairs Officer. Public affairs is a sensitive area mainly concerned with communications between CAP and the public at large. To establish and maintain CAP's good relations with the public, each squadron PAO or any person in Group III who has written a CAP-related article or story for publication is required to first submit it to the Group III PAO. At the group level, the item will be checked for accuracy, scope, and suitability. Should the subject matter affect or reflect upon a higher headquarters, the Group III PAO will seek and obtain permission to publish it, edited as deemed appropriate. Once this process is completed, the author will be furnished with the approved copy for local publication. Generally, the Group III PAO will distribute the item to Wings Over Texas, CAP National, and the Texas press at large. The squadron PAO is charged with distributing it to the local press.
