Safety Officer - What Does a
Safety Officer Need to Know?
As a Civil Air Patrol member, I pledge
to promote an uncompromising safety environment for myself and
others, and to prevent the loss of, or damage to Civil Air Patrol
assets entrusted to me. I will perform all my activities in a
professional and safe manner, and will hold myself accountable for
my actions in all of our Missions for America.
To enhance mission capability by
reducing the mishap potential of all flying and ground activities.
Being a safety officer can be fun. You
are appointed by and work directly for the commander, and should
have no other duties. You are the commander's chief advisor in
matters related to safety. Thus, you should be constantly vigilant
regarding potential safety hazards. A Safety Officers also needs to
provide and manage a safety program, and pass down all safety
information vital to safety programs.
This program asks that, monthly, every
senior member and cadet send in one safety idea for either Ground
Safety, Air Safety, or both to National. I would encourage all of
you to send in your safety ideas for posting here. The Safety
Officer and the Group Commander will review and submit them to
National for consideration.
Each month, the best Safety Idea for Air
and Ground will receive an Operation CAPSafe travel
coffee mug and a keychain Maglite.
